What changes in practice
When a switch is worth evaluating
Riverside and Airtape both support local capture and joining without a guest account. If you already use Riverside editing, include the extra editing work when evaluating a switch.
Decide with a test interview
Record a short sample with the same person and devices. Note joining, input selection, upload completion, and export. Inspect the beginning, middle, and end of every file and a moment with overlapping speech.
Then evaluate the whole workflow: what does your editor need to do, which files are missing, and how long can you retain material? A short trial is more useful than a universal claim that one product is better.
Move one small project first
Back up existing recordings before switching. Try a low-stakes session, download all source files, and open them in the intended editor. Move the next important production only after the workflow works.
